SPICA is a method of measuring strain on high temperature, high pressure components susceptible to high temperature degradation. In this process, a sensor containing a unique pattern is attached to pre-determined weak areas. Digital images are taken at intervals while the component is in service and the displacement of the pattern is used to derive strain. This information provides useful data which can be used to determine the remaining life of components.
